Enter the Women’s Prize for Fiction
*Entries for the 2024 Women’s Prize for Fiction have now closed*
The Women’s Prize for Fiction runs from July, when we call for submissions, to the following June, when the winner is announced at an award ceremony in London.
Any woman writing in English – whatever her nationality, country of residence, age or subject matter – is eligible. Novels must be published in the United Kingdom between 1 April in the year the Prize calls for entries, and 31 March the following year, when the Prize is announced.
From the entries submitted each year, the judging panel will select a longlist sixteen titles, a shortlist of six and one winner. The winner receives a cheque for £30,000 and a limited-edition bronze statue known as the ‘Bessie’, created by the artist Grizel Niven. Both are anonymously endowed.
The Prize accepts novels entered by UK publishers, who may each submit a maximum of two titles per imprint and one title for imprints with a list of fourteen fiction titles or fewer published in a year. In addition to general submissions, publishers may enter as ‘free passes’ any eligible titles by authors who have been shortlisted in the last ten years (for the 2014 – 2023 prizes) or previously won any year of the prize since inception.
Full details on prize criteria and eligibility can be found in the Terms and Conditions. Please email submissions@womensprizeforfiction.co.uk with any further queries.
